Traxon gives classic Macao casino a LUXEON makeover

Hotel LisboaAfter building 19 casinos in 30 years in the Chinese resort city of Macao, Stanley Ho looked back at his first property, the classic Hotel Lisboa, and saw that it needed a major update. He turned to Teddy Lo for a new design that refreshed the look while retaining the hotel’s traditional high-end appeal… and that avoided the high cost of a complete renovation.

Mr. Lo chose modular LUXEON K2 LED-based fixtures from Traxon Technologies LUXEON K2 LED-based fixtures from Traxon Technologies for their relatively low initial cost, design flexibility, and low maintenance design. The Traxon Graze XB and Wash XB luminaires in white and RGB provide modular scalability, and a power architecture that allows the power supplies to be remotely located indoors with the DMX controller, where they can be more easily maintained. Power and control signals are both carried over widely-available Cat 5/RJ-45 telecom cabling.

Trilux ‘Estilio’ delivers Never Before Possible design

Trilux develops lighting fixtures using LUXEON RebelGerman luminaire manufacturer Trilux long known for their industrial fixtures is also a force in general lighting. In 2007, they challenged their designers to come up with a truly innovative, decorative task light that could be sold to commercial and high-end residential customers throughout Europe. The result was the Estilio, a premium floor/task lamp that makes a powerful statement in both design and technology.

Released in July 2008, the Estilio has a contemporary elegance, with a simple, ultra-thin profile that manages to fit into office, lobby, or living room. But what is really remarkable about the Estilio is that it is engineered to cast over 700 lux in a 600mm task field from a reflected light source less than 2cm wide and 10cm long – including lens and heat sink!

Trilux knew they could only accomplish this feat using the tiny but powerful LUXEON Rebel “LUXEON Rebel is the smallest LED with the highest output on the market,” says Stefan Seltmann, Engineer, Trilux Photometrics Laboratory. “It offers excellent price-performance, and Philips Lumileds’ reliability data is extremely accurate – conservative, if anything, compared to our internal tests.”

Philips Lumileds Expands LUXEON Custom Level 2 Solutions Service

Philips Lumileds has been providing Custom Level 2 solution services to our customers since the company’s inception.  Our experienced design and support teams have a deep understanding of optics, electronics, thermal, and mechanicals, and can design custom boards that can be dropped right into your luminaire or light engine.

Our Level II solutions have been used for the world’s first LED television, for millions of cell phone camera flash solutions and throughout the automotive lighting industry.  No one has more experience or expertise in designing and manufacturing Level 2 solutions.  And now it’s easier than ever to get started.  You can choose to use our design services alone or let us manage the supply chain and purchase from an assembly house, or let us design and build your complete Level 2 solution. Letting Philips Lumileds build your solution avoids the need for you to stock LED inventory to piece together an appropriate color and/or flux distribution – we do that for you.  Philips Lumileds Level 2 services are a simple, quick and cost competitive way to get your products to market more quickly.

Our LUXEON Custom Level 2 Service complements the standard LUXEON Level 2 solutions and Level 3 design services you can purchase from Future Lighting Solutions. Contact your regional marketing center, or your Philips Lumileds or FLS salesperson, for more information or to receive a Customer Design Information Form (CDIF) to get your project rolling.

New linear optic saves time, space, and money

Future Lighting Solutions announced on July 28 the availability of the new Linear Optic 210 from Polymer Optics Limited designed specifically for linear arrays of LUXEON Rebel LEDs. The new optic, developed in collaboration with Future Lighting Solutions, eliminates the need to assemble and glue individual optics to each LED. A single optic is easily affixed to a linear array of LEDs already assembled on a PCB board, resulting in fast, low-cost assembly that reduces the footprint required for the LED lighting system in a luminaire.

Available in standard packs of 10 or 100 units of 14mm x 1200mm each, the 80% efficient, 30˚ linear optic takes advantage of the small size of the LUXEON Rebel, and is just another example of the value that Future Lighting Solutions can add to our LUXEON customers.

Did You Know: LUXEON-based automotive headlights are on the road

Automotive lighting continues to evolve and no function has been more anticipated that forward lighting—headlamp—applications.  Two major announcements indicate the system capabilities of companies as they implement LUXEON-based solutions.

First we offer our congratulations to Audi and Automotive Lighting for receiving the prestigious reddot design award for the world’s first full LED headlamp that can now be seen gracing the front of the Audi R8.  Learn more here.

With no less an extraordinary accomplishment, Truck-Lite has introduced a new 7” headlamp using LUXEON technology that has already entered service on some military vehicles.  The 7-in round white LED Headlamps meet or exceed all applicable Department of Transportation (DOT) requirements and all Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards (FMVSS) pertaining to headlights.  You can read more or visit Truck-Lite’s web site.
