Philips Ultinon Pro9000 H7 LED headlight bulb receives KATRI certification and sets the standard for legal LED retrofit headlights

With KATRI certification, the Red-Dot award-winning Philips Ultinon Pro9000 H7 bulb becomes road legal in South Korea, setting the standard for LED retrofit headlights.

Seoul, South Korea – June 28th, 2021 – The award-winning Philips Ultinon Pro9000 LED H7 headlight bulb has achieved Korea Apparel Testing & Research Institute (KATRI) certification. Now, drivers across Korea have another Philips option to legally upgrade their headlights from halogen to these advanced LED headlights.

Successfully overcoming the technical challenge

Achieving road legal certification is a significant technical challenge. And approval of the Philips Ultinon Pro9000 follows soon after the recent KATRI approval of the Philips Ultinon Essential. As the first automotive lighting company to offer a road-legal LED headlight bulb in South Korea, Lumileds once again demonstrates its expertise and attention to driver safety with this achievement.

Using patented SafeBeam technology, which produces an optimum beam and glare-free pattern, the Philips Ultinon Pro9000 directs the light exactly where it is needed on the road, while avoiding blinding oncoming drivers – making these headlights safe for all road users.

“It’s not every day that an LED retrofit headlight is approved for legal use on a country’s public roads, which reflects this incredible technical achievement.” said Jacques Le Berre, Business Line Manager for Lamps & LED Upgrades at Lumileds. “Now our customers in South Korea can upgrade their headlights to a brighter light for a safer, more comfortable night time drive.”

Easy to upgrade to brighter headlights

Drivers in South Korea can now upgrade their headlights to the Philips Ultinon Pro9000 H7-LEDs. They’re equipped with exclusive Lumileds LUXEON TopContact LEDs (otherwise only available to car makers), offering up to 250% brighter light[1]. The optimal spectrum makes road signs more visible and allows drivers to react faster.

The Philips Ultinon Pro9000 also features a color temperature of up to 5800 Kelvin, proven among Original Equipment Manufacturers to maximize eye comfort while driving at night. This reduces fatigue and the risk of eye strain, making driving in the dark a safer, more pleasant experience.

The simple plug and play installation makes it easy for mechanics and DIYers to upgrade a car’s headlights. And the clever design and built-in driver means it can fit easily into many existing headlamp units, without the need for CANbus adaptors or connector rings.

Winning prestigious awards and accolades

The Philips Ultinon Pro9000 LED headlight was a Best of the Best winner in the product design category at the 2021 Red Dot international design awards. Assessed on criteria that include innovation, functionality, and durability, it is certainly one of the year’s stand-out products. The Red Dot jury evaluated nearly 7,800 entries from 60 countries this year and only bestows  its Best of the Best awards to examples of ground-breaking design.

It was also the only automotive lighting winner in the Car Goods Magazine Product of the Year Awards in Japan, recognised as a standout innovation.

“Lumileds is determined to improve road safety and contributes to initiatives around the world to bring the best LED technology into standardization and regulatory frameworks.added Jacques.
