What does CrispColor Technology do?

Lumileds CrispColor Technology provides a higher color gamut area which enables it to display all colors with the right amount of saturation, making easier to discriminate between colors and improve the appearance of objects. In fact, as CrispColor Technology is focused on getting the best color quality according to the TM-30 color metric, it enables a “Class A” color quality that creates a better contrast between different colors. CrispColor Technology differs from other technologies that Lumileds offers, such as CrispWhite Technology (which focuses on replacing CDM HID or Ceramic Metal Halide) or standard “on black body line” products. Lighting that incorporates this technology results in a retail experience wherein the customer is able to better distinguish the natural colors of clothes and fabrics. CrispColor Technology combines an enhanced continuous spectrum with strategic color points below the black body line for each CCT to achieve the perfect white balance for any application with great color rendering, vibrant reds and colors that “pop.”

CrispColor Technology is based on ASSIST and NIST Studies of White Perception

Research conducted by the Lighting Research Center at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in support of the Alliance for Solid-State Illumination Systems and Technologies (ASSIST) has found a preference for negative Duv, with white light tint minimized below the black body locus and also below the original ANSI quadrangles. Research by the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) also supports these findings.

CrispColor Technology Has Great Color Rendering Performance

Clean Whites
Below black body locus to eliminate the yellow tint noticeable with traditional LED sources

Improved Color Fidelity
CrispColor Technology scores very high in the most popular color rendering metrics (CRI, CQS, TM-30)

Superior Gamut (High Gamut Area Index)
The perfect GAI amount for attractive colors (80) Excessive GAI scores can denote artificially saturated, cartoonish colors. Low GAI scores correspond with dull colors

Vibrant Reds
Easier to discriminate between colors and improves appearance of objects with several colors. CrispColor Technology display good saturation of all colors, including the vibrant reds demanded by retail applications.

LUXEON LEDs with CrispColor Technology have CRI scores over 90, ensuring all colors stand out and “pop”.

As it is important for retail environments to have directional as well as linear solutions, Lumileds CrispColor Technology is offered in form factors that can cover both of these applications. CrispColor Technology is available in Chip on Board as well as Mid Power (LUXEON 2835) offerings, ensuring a good consistent view for all lighting applications in a store. CrispColor Technology creates the most impactful retail lighting available, by making sure that products and fabrics come alive.
